This 100 degree weather has me all hot and bothered, and NOT the good kind! lol If I'm going to be sweating out my blowout, it might as well be for some dancing, delicious cocktails, and a live Latin band on these hot summer nights!
Located off Sunset and N. Western Avenue in Los Angeles, La Descarga is one of my favorite "speakeasy" nightclubs, mainly because it does not feel like a nightclub! Make no mistake, you need a reservation to get in and the line can be a little discouraging; however, once you make it through the red velvet ropes the real experience begins! After walking up a narrow flight of stairs there is a small lobby with a check-in desk and receptionist that welcomes you. The attractive receptionist (male or female) will lead you to a coat closet and as you walk through some old clothing you are instantly transported to small club in 1940's Cuba where the Latin band is jammin', rum is flowin', and the burlesque dancers are FUEGO!
Once you get down the gorgeous spiral staircase to the main dance floor, they have salsa lessons (if you make it early enough), and the most amazing rum focused drinks! Though their full-bar options are endless, I highly recommend trying something on their specialty menu! The live music starts around 10pm and the extremely talented burlesque dancer will appear shortly after. The striptease show is a must see, incredible tasteful and the dancer was so talented! There is also a small back area which is the cigar room. They sell an array of cigars to choose from if you so desire, or if you prefer alcohol, there is also a second bar in the cigar room as well.
Now, I understand that once you hit 30 (maybe even before) the notion of "I don't want to be the old breezy in the club" is a red flag... BUT the amazing thing about La Descarga is that it perfect for all ages and it is SO much fun... not just fun for the little 21 year old in a neon mini skirt (all power to ya sister)! La Descarga is a more diverse crowd and has a dress code of semi formal (dresses, collard shirts, dress shoes, etc.) which makes it a great place to visit for a special occasion!
The first time I went was for my 30th birthday, it was such a great time that my good friend decided to have her birthday party there a couple months later! If you are in the Los Angeles area, it is definitely a must see! For more information and reservations, go to www.ladescarga.com Have a blast!
